Her take-no-prisoners approach to life and relentless perfection are so enjoyable to read and, on some levels, relate to. I may just have to give some other Perrotta novels a try after this. I found that as much as I enjoyed the perortta when I was reading it, it didn’t stay with me when it was over I would say that the book is worth reading, if you haven’t seen the movie.

I didn’t care what happened to them. I finished over the course of a day, so clearly I liked it. This shows her rebellious nature and establishes her as a strong character.
I found myself tearing through the book in under a day. I was moved, Paul. I still like both of those things about it today, but I also recognize how bleakly human it is.
There are some differences and although I do enjoy the movie, I found that the character development was better in this – you definitely like Tracy more and Paul I didn’t get invested in any of perrotts characters.
Want to Read saving…. He gets the most vignettes and we spend the most time with him, which really allows our hatred of him to slowly build up throughout this short work.

As a mentioned before, Tracy, despite being the star of this novel, receives the fewest and shortest vignettes if you discount the few vignettes from the janitor near the end of the novel. It’s all in there. But this nifty little story, with its elction jumps from character to character as the voice of narration, as well as Perrotta’s talent for creating voices the reader practically hears out loud, stands on its own two feet, apart from my movie-love.
The novel’s ending is far more bleak and unrelenting. I am a nearly-rabid fan of the movie version of Tom Perrotta’s “Election”, and it recently occurred to me that I had never read the book!
Maybe Tracey really is lonely now that she has everything that she’s ever wanted. Ignorance is bliss and I wasn’t aware it was based on a novel so the other day I bought it and finished it within 24 hours.

I liked the characters and the way the author gets straight to the heart of them and his depiction of suburban America. Tracy Flick is an unpopular girl but very ambitious, intelligent, and manipulative and even described as attractive and rather buxom by some teachers and fellow students. If you’ve never read this or if you’ve never seen the movieI cannot recommend either enough.
I had fun with it, and loved the writing style.
Pretty much the book I probably could have written and wish I did. Jul 12, David rated it it was amazing. Those of us familiar with how the film version of Election ends will be surprised at just how differently the novel finishes. In very different ways, the yb is superior to the film, and vice versa.
Election is a novel by Tom Perrotta. M full of idealism. I enjoy the way he writes as if the characters’ thoughts have no filter.
